Great Games Provided By Evan Brownell of North Jersey Vineyard!

SWAT
Everyone sits in chairs in a circle. There is one person in the middle.  There is also a bucket or empty garbage pail in the center. We used to make the swat stick out of a paper towel roll and duck tape.  I heard of using a pool noodle cut in half. It doesn’t hurt like the traditional duck tape stick.  The person in the middle has the stick. They have to “tag” a person in a chair by hitting them in the knee with the noodle. Once tagged, the person in the middle races to put the noodle into the bucket in the middle, and then to steal the tagged persons seat. (same concept as duck duck goose with out racing around in a circle) The person who got tagged has to try and grab the noodle out of the bucket and tag the tagger back before they make it safely to the open seat.  It’s a fast moving high energy game.
To add a little twist to the game, before getting tagged, the person in the chair can yell out the name of another person in the circle. The tagger then has to go and tag that person. If that person yells out another name, the tagger has to go find them. It’s a fun game and people whether the group knows each other or not.

Honey I love you but I just cant smile
Everyone sits in a chair in a circle. The peron in the middle goes and sits on someone’s lap. In the sweetest most loving, sincere way possible,  the person in the middle must look the person in the eyes and say “honey, I love you but I just cant smile”. If the person in the chair laughs, they are now the person in the middle. If the person in the chair can hold a straight face, or the person in the middle cracks up,  they have to move on to a new victim.

The Pirate game
The pirate game is a fun game to play with lots of people–basically, we have to get in groups according to what the caller calls out:

Lighthouse
2 people stand facing each other hands touching each other in the air.

Man Overboard
3 people 2 people hold hands, third person is in the middle and gets rocked around “on the waves”

Dine In
4 people face each other and pretend to scarf down their food

Lifeboat
5 people face each other and paddle like they are paddling in a canoe. In between the calls, everyone is “swabbing the deck”…pretending to mop the floor. If you get left out of a group, you’re out of the game

Panty hoes tug of war
2 kids have panty hoes on their head with socks or marshmallows in the feet. Pantyhose on their heads, kids on their hands and knees swing their heads around attempting to tangle their “ legs” with their opponent. Once sufficiently tangled, they try and pull the panty hoes off their opponents head.

Peanut butter shirt
2 teams one kid on each team gets covered in peanut butter. Once covered, their team mates throw slices of bread at them the team with the most pieces stuck on wins

Sardines
Someone hides everyone tries to find them. Once they do, you hide with them and try not to give your location away.

Cat and mouse
One mouse one cat. The rest of the students form a circle- every other person faces out. Mouse starts in the circle, cat starts out. Cat tries to catch the mouse. People in circle let the mouse run through,. But block the cat.

Crab soccer

Soccer

Dodge ball

Worm Races
2 teams divided in half –one on each side of the room, first worm gets wrapped up in a bed sheet and has to wiggle across the room to their team mates. The object is to get all of your team to the opposite end from which they started.

Penguin kickball
Wrap kids legs in plastic food wrap above the knees- keep it tight play kick ball. Not much room required.

Beach Blanket Beach Ball
Stretch a volleyball net, rope, or some other type of divider across the middle of the room, and hang blankets over it so players can’t see the other side. Have two teams take their places on either side of the net. All the players should spread out and sit down on the floor so they cover the entire area on their side of the divider. Players may not hold or catch the ball, and when the ball hits the ground, the other team scores a point.

To begin the game, put a large inflated beach ball into play by tossing it to the players on one side of the divider. Players can use any part of their bodies to hit the ball as often as necessary to get it back over the divider. The ball can also be hit off the ceiling, stage, walls, stereo—even adult leaders. The round of play stops only when the ball hits the ground. Players can hit the ball as many times as needed to get it over the net, but the same person can’t hit it twice in a row. Points are scored with every serve or volley. Set a score limit of 15 or 21 points for each match. After three matches, the team with the best two-out-of-three record is the ultimate beach blanket champion!

Robot pudding
2 kids per team. Need pudding, spoons, 2 large boxes (for a robot body) and 2 smaller boxes (robots head) One kid it the body. Cut a head hole in the top and arm holes on the sides. The body box must be wide enough so the kids hands cant touch. The other person puts on the “head”- you need to make a mouth hole, no eyes. I use 6 puddings per team. The first “body” to feed their “head” all 6 puddings wins.

Sock wrestling
Make a tape ring on the floor. 2 ppl on their hands and knees, wrestle to pull off the other ones socks. If they go out of the ring 3 times they lose.

Kitty Litter
Put a mix of oatmeal and flour (kitty litter) in a aluminum tray. Unwrap mini chocolate bars (twix, milky way etc) melt chocolates in microwave for 15 sec.- just to get them mushy. I put about 10 bars in each tray of kitty litter. Kids get on their knees, no hands and have to dig around in the kitty litter for the chocolate “nuggets”.

Carrot in a bottle
Need an empty juice bottle (wide mouth), a lg carrot and a 3’ piece of string per kid playing. Tie one end of the string to the carrot, and the other end of the string around the kids waist. In the end, the carrot should dangle behind the kid between their legs. The goal is to lower the carot into the mouth of the juice bottle. Take pictures. Cheer loud.

Egg drop
You need a a high platform or a 2nd story window for this. One person is up high with a bowl of eggs. Their teammate is down on the ground holding a plastic bowl on their head. The idea is for the person on the ground to catch as many eggs in their bowl as possible.  Its gross messy and hard.

Pb and J made with feet
Eating race 2 kids per team. One kid sits in a chair, shoes and sox off. With bare feet they have to make a pb+j sandwich. The other teammate has to eat it, no hands. I usually tarp the floor, and give each team peanut butter in one bowl, jelly in another and 2 pieces of bread. The cheaper bread falls apart, and makes for quite the mess.

Osmosis
Put panty hoes over head, then your team mate feeds you pudding first one to “finish” their pudding wins.

Balloon and whipped cream
Cover balloon in whipped cream, attach to table, race to lick them clean

Flower bombs
Take a paper towel square. Put ¼ cup of flour in the middle, gather up the edges of the paper towel. I usually use thin masking tape to tie it up. Play it outside. I made this mistake and 8 months later we are still finding flour around church. It doesn’t vacuum up much at all.

Toilet paper dodge ball

Play dodge ball with toilet paper. When the mess is made- each team picks a person. They have to put on an outfit (I usually find pants and shorts at a thrift store). I break teams up guys and girls to avoid inappropriate touch. The 2 teams then race to gather as much toilet paper as you can and stuff your volunteer to look like a body builder. Then the 2 stuffed body builders then have a flex off to show off their “muscles”. The team that cheers loudest for their body builder wins.

Three Legged Soccer
Like a 3 legged race. Tie 2 kids middle leg together and play soccer. You only need a small field/ room.

Vulture
Guys get in the middle and hold onto each other. The girls then try and peel the guys away from each other. Its harder then you think.

Blob variation
Everyone stands in a circle. There is a garbage pail in the middle of the circle. The idea is to pull the other people into the garbage pail. If you hit the pail or break your grip, you are out. Attach bowl to top of pail. Target area if on diagonal opposite side of room. 2 teams. Team on NE corner run to the SW corner and the team in the NW corner runs to the SE corner.  Fill bowl on to with something. Object is to get enough of the object into the pail in the opposite corner. Were using skittles- first team to fill the bucket with skittles wins. Cut a 1” peep hole in the pail for the person running. Variation- team has to transport the pieces of an icecream Sunday to the other side of the room. Last person has to eat it all. Kids will collide and get messy!!!!

Thirsty Straws Game
Instructions: In groups of four, choose the order in which each person will drink.  Thirsty Straws is a relay race to see who finishes first. The object of the game is to be the first team to drink the entire liter of water – with the requirement that each member of the team can only drink once. The catch is that if each person does not drink his/her share, the last person is left to finish off whatever is left.  This is usually an extremely difficult task and usually hilarious to watch.Note: This game may not be the most sanitary of games.  As a cleaner alternative, consider a relay using multiple bottles of water, in which the next person can drink when the person finishes his or her one bottle.

The Banana Pass Game
The banana pass is an outdoor action game that is essentially a messy relay race. The “baton” is a banana — except the catch is that you can only use your feet to pass it! Eww.. How to Play:
Players lie down on the grass, head to toe in a straight line with each person’s toes about 2 feet away from the next teammate’s head. When the game begins, the first people in line grab hold of the banana with their feet and pass it over their heads to the next person’s feet. The next person receives the banana with his or her feet and passes again until the entire team is done. When the banana has been passed to the last person, this person must peel the banana and eat it (ewww!). After eating it, the person then must run back to the starting line, finishing the race for the team.
