This week at youth group, I invited our senior pastor to come speak. Lately I’ve been hoping for, and praying for, an increase in passion for worshipping Jesus at youth group. Our group loves Jesus, and I love their corporate heart for God. But I’ve been feeling that God wants to release a greater passion into their hearts, a greater longing, and a greater sense of the “realness” of God…
So the thought came to me (probably from God!) to ask my senior pastor (it’s funny, every time I type senior I accidentally type seniore . . isn’t that Spanish?) to teach. So Bruce came and taught on worship. It was great, he shared his testimony of growing in worship and why he worships enthusiastically. It was really good.
We worshipped after the teaching this time, since the teaching was on worship, and I have to say worship was fantastic. I really feel that Bruce’s encouragement, specifically coming from one generation to the next, had spiritual power in it. I feel that something was released, a freedom to express yourself more, and God was felt more tangibly by many that night. Also, they were able to give Him more of their hearts than before. It was great!
Has anyone else tried bringing other pastors/staff/worship leaders to speak at youth group?
We just had Phil (our senior dude) speak to our youth crew last month. He thought he was just going to come share a bit, but that afternoon God totally downloaded a pretty intense “charge” that he was to give them. It was a powerful night as he prayed over each one of them…definately something we should do at least every 6 months or so. I know he’s crazy busy, so I booked him about 3 months before
He is also present at both the guy and girl conferences we do each summer. I think it’s powerful for the youth to be deposited into by multiple voices and annointings. He just does one session, but the youth LOVE it!
