Hey guys we just had our Surge meeting this sunday and it went very well. I have already gotten responses from parents and students about their desire to go on this trip. We probably had close to 20 students attend the meeting so if we can get 3/4 of that I will be really psyched. Our next meeting is going to be in two weeks which is the deadline to sign up on the surge site and to pay the 50 dollar deposit.
I have recommended to the parents that if they could they should put down 100.00 to make it easier at the end. In the next meeting we will talk alot about fundraising and airfare. Which brings me to my next question. I have found that Continental and Spirit Air are giving me the best rates out of Boston so I wanted to know if anyone has had any luck anywhere else. Also fundraisers, we have lots of ideas but the goal is to find the ones that produce maximum profit with minimal effort. Can anyone give me ideas to go along with the one’s that we have already. Thanks and be blessed!!!!!!!!!!
Chad – that is so exciting about 20 people! Great job!
Right now, Vineyard New Haven is looking at 6 people going, with more possible.
Here is a list of fundraisers we have done or will be doing:
1) Local AHL Hockey Game – made $7.50 each ticket and did a raffle as well (worked ok but learned more for next time)
2) Church Portrait sitting – one of the men in our church is a photographer. We’ll charge for family portraits with a small upcharge for individual sittings. Photos will be provided to the family on CD/DVD. Photos will also be used to publish church directory.
3) Concert – same guy has some contacts in the music industry, including a nationally-labeled artist willing to perform for free. Freewill offering will be taken.
4) Plant Sale – we did this a couple years ago and made good $$. A woman lets us dig up her garden. We split out the plant roots and sell – 1 for $6, 3 for $15, $6 for $20. An afternoon of work generated over $500.
5) Church-wide tag sale – have church members bring in their stuff and sell at community tag sale.
6) Church auction – have church members offer goods or services and watch them bid each other up. It has been lots of fun in previous years and, again, make real good $$. We have had artists donate paintings, people donate ethnic-dinners (asian, ghanian, etc), music/sports lessons, etc.
I’m happy to provide further details.
just had our fundraising meeting Sunday, our crew wants to sell Chocolates (50% profit), Sam’s Italian Sandwich cards (also 50% profit), make easter baskets to have raffles/silent auctioned off at church, do a dinner after church for families (the mission team will be doing the entertainment, talking about the trip and serving), they also are doing rent-a-teen where individuals from the church or community can hire them…although we are doing it slightly different this year and creating a google calendar of when the teens are available and the people needing the work can contact them directly, which is less work for me
When I was in college my team ate bugs to raise money. yup, crickets…cooked in a little butter and salt are not so bad. We asked people to sponsor us x amount of money for each bugs (some paid $1/bug, some $5/bug) BUT, my roommate offered me $100 if I’d eat one that was still alive…the worse part was the goey crunch in my mouth…yeah, I wanted to gag too! But a gallon of water later, I was $100 closer to my goal! Gotta love it!
